Best Gifts for au pairs

Gifts and holidays are a great time to show your love and appreciation to your au pair. There are many key times to do this.

  • Arrival: Small welcome gift. Things related to your city, state or country. A few gift cards to local stores/ restaurants
  • Birthdays
  • Valentines Day
  • Easter and Halloween (small traditional family specific)
  • Extension
  • Departure/ Farewell
  • Christmas

Top 10 List from almost a 1000 host families and au pairs.

10 – Something Au Pair needs – Listen and observe carefully over your emails and time together. This may be warmer clothes and/or blanket if she’s from a warm climate moving to your colder climate. Extra luggage for her return trip or that really nice purse, outfit etc that she’s been eyeing

9 – Ornament – Not a complete gift but a good add at the holidays to help be part of the family. This is a popular family tradition. Many will add an ornament to their tree every year. Why not give one to your au pair that is either customized with a photo or moment that means a lot to you and the au pair or an ornament with specific meaning to their time in America.

8 – Customized stocking – Not a complete gift but a good add at the holidays to help be part of the family. Perhaps make one with her name, followed by best au pair 2020?, or if your not feeling crafty or out of time most stores sell stockings with a letter, choose the one with her first name letter.

7 – Photo album – Make custom photo album of all the great moments your au pair has had with the family and kids. Complete with touching statements.

6 – Customized jewelry – Jewelry with a significance. A locket with a picture of her and the kids or the family. A charm in the shape of your country and/or state. Bracelet inscribed with a nice family message “An ocean apart but always close in our hearts” “Best au pair”

5 – An extra weeks pay and a nice gift – if you have the means hit 2 great things money and a thoughtful gift.

4 – Spa accessories/ basket/ bundle – After all that hard work au pairs really enjoy pampering themselves, facials, manicures, and sweet smelling lotions!

3 – Customized picture (Canvas, puzzle, Framed pic, snow globe etc)

2 – Gift Cards – Gift cards to starbucks, their favorite resturants, cool local experiences are all great just make sure they have enough time to spend before returning to their home country

1 – Cash is king, who doesn’t love cash to do with as they please, especially au pairs who are a bit cash strapped!
